The Best Alternatives to Dell Boomi, Informatica and Workato: 2023 Edition

Running a business in the 21st century is no easy task. Managing a company in the 21st century is not an easy task. With more demands than ever before, managers quickly feel overwhelmed, resulting in lower productivity and more difficult obstacles to overcome. Smart solutions such as Dell Boomi, Informatica, Workato and other automation tools are therefore becoming increasingly popular - but is there an alternative for each of these options?

But first a brief overview, if you are not yet familiar with automation tools, you may not be familiar with the names listed above. Therefore, we will briefly define them here.

  • Dell Boomi: This on-demand cloud platform gives users access to features such as data transfer between applications in the cloud and on-premise, automated cloud-based integration processes and more.
  • Informatica: Another popular data integration solution. This product is based on an ETL architecture that is very versatile in different business areas.
  • Workato: This solution is used by both business and IT staff and is used to automate various workflows, whether on-site or in the cloud.

Although these three options are among the most widely used in companies worldwide, you should not blindly choose one of them just because they are popular. For example, an Informatica alternative may prove more useful for your specific needs than the original tool. Ultimately, it comes down to what works best for your individual workflow. Therefore, we recommend that you consider some of the following options before making your final decision.

Overview of tools and alternatives to Dell Boomi, Workato and Informatica.

The best Dell Boomi alternative: Make*.

Make has long been a favourite at WeMakeFuture, and it's not hard to see why. With a host of innovative features designed specifically for modern businesses, your workforce is guaranteed to benefit from its stress-free automation and user-friendly integration.

  • Compatibility: So how does Make fit into your business? Like most high-tech automation solutions, Make can connect to a variety of applications to keep your workflow as flexible as you need it to be. Plus, with Make HTTP/SOAP or JSON modules, you can create links between websites and third-party services to further expand your automation capabilities. To put it simply: The sky is the limit.
  • Security : Of course, your business tools are useless if they're not secure. Fortunately, Make has not compromised on security, as all results and data are protected by advanced automatic error handling, comprehensive security measures, discrete logging options and much more.
  • Pricing:"But what about the costs?" Don't worry, we haven't forgotten! In fact, we have some good news: Make is one of the most cost-effective Dell Boomi alternatives on the market. With the free version, you have access to up to 1,000 process steps/operations. And if you need more leeway, you can upgrade to 10,000 operations for a low $9 - that's a bargain!

Disadvantages to be considered :

As much as you love the service, not every solution is perfect, and Make is no exception. Some minor drawbacks of the tool that you should keep in mind are

  • The documentation: Some users have found the documentation of Make too complex, which has led to confusion.
  • Testing: Compared to other (albeit more expensive) alternatives, Make may require more extensive error testing and fixing before full integration.

The best Informatica alternative: n8n.io*

The free and open source workflow automation tool n8n.io is a powerful resource that virtually any organisation can use to increase productivity. If you need something that is open source and integrates with various digital solutions, this is probably the best choice for you.

  • Compatibility: n8n can help you connect to virtually any existing app - if it has an API. This means you can connect to widely used tools like Slack, GitHub, WordPress and dozens of others.
  • Security: When using n8n, you can benefit from the usual security measures, including encryption of sensitive data. You also benefit from regular backups and accurate data segregation.
  • Pricing: There's not much to say here: n8n is 100% free! So if you're looking for an open source alternative to Informatica that won't put a hole in your wallet, this is the way to go.

Disadvantages to be considered:

Because it is such a new platform, it is difficult to name the disadvantages that could plague n8n in the future. If anything, the only disadvantage is the fact that the platform is still new, which means that users should expect the service to have some teething problems.

The best Workato alternative: Azure Logic Apps

If you rely on Microsoft business tools and need simple, cloud-based, automated workflows, Azure Logic Apps is one of the best solutions.

  • Compatibility: Azure Logic Apps is primarily used for business-to-business purposes, but can still be used virtually anywhere. However, it is most useful when connected to other Microsoft tools such as Office 365.
  • Security: The platform's Azure storage system is designed to automatically encrypt your data so it's safe when at rest. So you can get back to meeting your business needs without worrying about security risks - a worthwhile alternative to Workato.
  • Pricing: Azure Logic Apps offers a convenient pricing scale based on how many actions you perform, what processing features you want to use and more. So you never pay more than you need to.

Disadvantages to note: Like n8n, Azure Logic Apps is a new service, which means there are still some limitations, but Microsoft is a big player and should fix these quickly, when it comes to creating features outside of the current capabilities, you can of course do more with code here. If you need something that is 100% flexible, this is the place to go, if you need something with a lot of integrations you might want to look at Pipedream .

Cloud Integration, iPaaS, SaaS, BPA… Ough, hard to keep track of all these terms. They are currently used frequently (and increasingly) in the context of automation, and it is sometimes difficult to make a clear distinction and distinction. We have already written blog posts on the terms iPaaS, SaaS and BPA, but we’ll take them up again here to make the difference.

But let’s start with cloud integration, because that’s the central umbrella term in which we embed all the other technologies in this blog post.

  • Is available in real time
  • Can be accessed from almost anywhere
  • Reduce potential sources of error by entering the same data multiple times
  • Require less installation and maintenance

To illustrate these advantages, an example is suitable that we know well from our everyday work as an automation agency:

The central data to be used here is the data of a major customer. This can be the simplest information, such as the address. This address is required in numerous but completely different processes in the company: on the one hand, for correct invoicing in accounting. On the other hand, in the CRM system, where all the data of the large customer is also stored. But the address is also important in sales, for example, when employees go to the sales meeting on site.

Now the customer announces that the address of the company has changed after a move. This information will reach you by e-mail. There are now two options:

01. The e-mail is forwarded to all affected departments, accounting, sales, customer service, marketing… All persons open their corresponding program, CRM, accounting software, marketing tools (such as newsletter marketing) and change the data already stored there of the customer. This means that in multiple applications, different people do exactly the same thing: change one address.

02. But there is also an alternative: By connecting your applications, thus by integrizing them, the customer’s e-mail, or rather the information it contains about the address change, is automatically passed on to all affected applications: CRM, accounting, marketing, ERP. This does not require any clicks, because the cloud integration detects a trigger, i.e. address change, and thus automatically starts the process.

What sounds unimpressive in a single process becomes more effective when such a process occurs several times a day or weekly. Because there is a lot of data that is available in different applications and should always be correct. If these applications are cloud applications they are suitable for cloud integration.

But cloud integration doesn’t just happen. There are now a variety of applications that enable and implement this. Such tools usually allow us to link the relevant cloud applications on a central platform and define clear rules on when, how, where, how much data should be passed on and what happens to them.

IPaaS, SaaS, BPA, ABC – who can still see through it?

To realize cloud integration, there are various applications and technologies that are sometimes used interchangeably.

We have made a first distinction between iPaaS and BPA here.

We explain the term SaaS in more detail here.

Here the short version, again:

Cloud integration cannot be done without SaaS, iPaaS and BPA

Cloud integration is rather an umbrella term that includes numerous technologies, such as SaaS, iPaaS and BPA, and this is also absolutely necessary. Cloud integration is a concept that is made possible by appropriate technologies.

However, all terms share the commonality that they are cloud-based and thus offer enormous potential for growth and scaling. In addition, they are often cheaper to implement and maintain because changed requirements are easy to implement.

As an independent automation agency, we implement cloud integration according to your requirements. We use a variety of SaaS tools and iPaas (strictly speaking BPA) software. Together we find individual solutions that are flexible and scalable.
